Congratulations to African Center of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID) bioinformaticians, Paul Oluniyi and Idowu Olawoye, for receiving a Public Health Alliance for Genomic Epidemiology subgrant funded by the Gates Foundation!
With this grant, the duo will generate high-quality SARS-CoV-2 genomes using Next Generation Sequencing technologies and viral assembly pipelines. They will make their data, reports, and protocols available to Nigerian public health authorities, especially the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
They will also train public health scientists on the standardization of data analysis & protocols, thereby strengthening bioinformatics/data analysis units in sequencing labs. Ultimately, the project will facilitate sustainable bioinformatics in Nigeria. Read more
